Welcome Friends!

Every 4 days a woman dies at the hands of her partner. According to Women’s Aid, an estimated 28.9% (4.8 million) of women aged 16 to 59 years have experienced some form of domestic abuse since the age of 16 years. This figure is difficult to quantify given that domestic abuse is a largely hidden crime. In reality, the number of families living in fear is much higher. Domestic abuse has a devastating impact on children that can last into adulthood.

Wirral Women and Children’s Aid, formerly known as the Women’s Refuge (Wirral), was established in 1981.

In 2001, we moved into a purpose-built Refuge which accommodates up to twelve families, including 2 self-contained units which can cater for people with disabilities and families with older boys.

The number of families asking for help continues to rise. In order to maintain this vital service, adequate funding is essential.

The Friends of the Women’s Refuge was founded to encourage regular giving and has been our lifeline; helping us to overcome difficult times and providing for our families in need.

Please be our Friend and help us raise funds to enable the refuge to continue its life saving work.

Anyone joining the Friends will be kept informed of the work of the refuge.
